Chimney Sleuth is an independent safety and cost reference for chimney owners chimney repair, cleaning, liner installation, cap sizing, and inspection reports. We build toolss and guides that answer the questions homeowners ask after an inspection: is this crack serious, what liner size do I need, how much will a repair really cost?
How our numbers work
Every calculator runs on the engineering standards and manufacturer specs that professionals use, plus cost data gathered from public pricing and supplier catalogs. Each formula is checked by hand against worked examples before it ships. Prices on this site are always shown as ranges with an "as of" date, because material and labor costs move with your region and season. We never publish a made-up statistic.
What we are not
We are not a chimney sweep, a contractor, a supplier, or a code enforcement agency. Our numbers are planning estimates, not inspection reports or construction documents. For anything structural, safety-critical, or code-related -- especially clearances, venting, and fire ratings -- confirm with a CSIA- certified professional or your local building department before you proceed.
